Sprung Timber Sports Floors

It sounds simple, we buy a shiny new sprung sports floor, its installed and we play sport on it.

It would be great if it were indeed that simple but in reality its normally not the case unless the right amount of due diligence is carried out in the planning and pre contract stages

The first step should be identifying what you need from the floor now but also in future years.

A few points to consider -

  •           Is the floor code compliant and how do I check the supplier’s info is correct?
  •          Do we need a high-end performance only floor or will it also be used for non-sport activities?
  •          What loads can the floor handle? Think changing lights, air conditioning maintenance, roof repairs, ceiling mounted basketball backboards etc.
  •          Will the floor be compatible with retractable seating units? Unless it’s planned for before purchase the answer for most floor systems is no but there are future proof solutions.
  •          What will the cost be for maintenance and at what intervals?
  •          What is the lifespan of the floor and how does that compare with the buildings shelf life?
  •          Warranty evaluation, a warranty with a small print clause noting disputes need to be settled in a foreign country could make the warranty worthless

Like any large purchase good homework will minimise the chance of things going wrong and when you are spending money on behalf of others you simply can’t get enough quality advice.

There are many other points to consider and a chat with Sport & Venues costs nothing and will go a long way to ensuring a positive outcome for your facility.
